“Every second was worth it”
Cara Delevingne is happy to quit alcohol

In an interview with Cara Delevingne, she doesn’t just openly talk about her love for singer Minky. The 30-year-old, known as a model and actress, is also dealing with her past alcoholism and is glad she dared to opt out. She even dreams of children now.

Cara Delevingne gushes in the September issue of british “el” from her friend. But it’s not just because of her relationship with singer Minky that the British woman is happier than she’s been in a long time: She can finally enjoy her life after her withdrawal.

In the interview, Delevingne says her partnership made her part of the queer community. In 2020, she had declared herself a savage. “My girlfriend has really wonderfully introduced me to a lot of things and people,” she said of Minky, whose real name is Leah Mason. The couple has known each other since they went to boarding school together and met at an Alanis Morissette party last year.

Her friend has been one of her biggest supporters on her path to abstinence and one of the reasons why “2023 is the best year I’ve had so far.” The relationship makes her very happy and she can be herself with the singer. Perhaps Minke is the partner with whom she can dream big: As Delevingne has made it clear, she really wants a baby. That’s why her to-do list says, “I have to freeze my eggs.”

The withdrawal was not easy

But not only her love contributes to the new well-being. Since she was sober thanks to withdrawal, a new era has begun for her. She hasn’t had a drink in nine months and says, “I’m able to live in ways I could never have imagined.” Of her time in rehab, she said, “It was worth every second.” It wasn’t easy, but now she can’t imagine relapsing: “I just don’t know what it would take to give up. I’m stable. I’m calmer. I finally feel completely free and can be myself.”

The 12-step Alcoholics Anonymous program and the support of “friends who have walked this path before and helped me tremendously” would have helped her. It was also good for her to withdraw for a while. But now she doesn’t want to hide anymore – and deliberately faces temptations.

I recently celebrated at the Glastonbury Festival, although it is often advised to avoid all drinking opportunities, especially during the first year after rehab. “There is no one-size-fits-all solution. I felt waiting to live again would be my downfall.” Everyone can now see her love for Minke. At the tennis tournament at Wimbledon two weeks ago, the two kissed publicly in the audience.

I thought she didn’t deserve to succeed

Throughout her life, Cara Delevingne has struggled with anxiety, depression, and substance abuse. She had a difficult childhood. Her rapid rise to fame and status as a coveted model didn’t change her problems. “It didn’t feel real. I didn’t feel worthy. I didn’t feel worthy. I was still stuck in the situation of not being good enough. I tried my best, but I didn’t really appreciate every moment. Inside, I felt so different than I looked.”

Meanwhile, she has largely withdrawn from the fashion world, preferring to work as an actress.
